Southside Family Nurturing Center |
|
Southside Family Nurturing Center is a holistic social service agency with over 38 years of experience serving families in the Phillips and surrounding neighborhoods of South Minneapolis who have multiple issues affecting their lives. Our family’s issues include: moderate to severe poverty, domestic violence, chemical dependency, homelessness, and mental health. We offer half-day therapeutic classrooms for toddlers and preschoolers and do weekly home visits with parents providing support, parent education, and crisis intervention and resource referral.
Many of the children we serve do not have access to a safe backyard space to explore and build confidence in the outdoors. Over the last two years, Southside has worked with design professionals to develop a Playscape design concept to transform our backyard into a natural outdoor play and learning environment to connect children with the landscape. A successful fundraising campaign has made starting to build the Playscape possible.
We are looking for a Playscape project manager who would be responsible for the following:
- Manage implementation of the Playscape design concept and make design adjustments as needed in the field.
- Lead the effort to coordinate supplies and materials. This includes seeking out companies that might want to donate time, expertise, materials and/or equipment
- Help coordinate volunteer groups from churches, schools, or other community organizations to help implement the Playscape.
- Manage and provide guidance to volunteer groups on-site.
- Oversee the implementation of the design through Phase I which includes removals, earthwork, and plantings by Fall 2012.
- Communicate progress and design issues with Nikki Schlepp.
- Report to and coordinate purchasing with Barb Olson, Executive Director.
- Coordinate with Partners Three, SSFNC Facilities Managers, on maintenance issues.
Compensation: Southside is a non-profit organization that relies on donations. This job would mainly be a volunteer effort. However, considering the amount of work and responsibility involved a small stipend has been made available and will be negotiated depending on experience.
If interested please contact Nikki Schlepp,
